Ripeness guide:
Nectarines are often harvested slightly firm for safe transit. If yours feel firm on arrival, leave them on the counter at room temperature for 1–2 days. They are ready when they give slightly under thumb pressure near the stem and release a sweet, floral aroma. Do not refrigerate until ripe — cold storage stops the ripening process.
Storage:
Once ripe, move to the fridge and use within 3–4 days. If you have more than your family can eat before they soften, slice and freeze for smoothies — frozen nectarines blend beautifully and keep for up to 3 months.
