Product description

WHY PLUMS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR FAMILY

  • Gut health: Natural sorbitol and dietary fibre support smooth, regular digestion.
  • Antioxidants: Deep purple skin is rich in polyphenols and anthocyanins that help protect cells from oxidative stress.
  • Heart health: Potassium supports healthy blood pressure and maintains a healthy heart rhythm.
  • Blood sugar: Despite their natural sweetness, plums have a low glycaemic index. Their fibre helps slow down sugar release into the bloodstream.
  • Vitamin C: Supports immune function, improves iron absorption, and promotes healthy skin through collagen production.
  • Vitamin K: Contributes to bone health. Ongoing research suggests polyphenols may also support bone density.

HOW TO ENJOY PLUMS

  1. Eat fresh as a snack: Consume whole with skin for maximum flavour and nutrition.
  2. With yogurt: Slice into yogurt and add a pinch of cardamom and a drizzle of honey.
  3. Grilled: Halve and remove the stone, then grill for 4 minutes. Serve with labneh or vanilla yogurt.
  4. Compote: Simmer with a cinnamon stick and a splash of water for a simple topping over oats or porridge.
  5. Savory use: Add to biryani or rice dishes as Aloo Bukhara, a traditional South Asian preparation.
  6. Smoothies: Blend with banana, ginger, and almond milk for a refreshing drink.
  7. Frozen treat: Freeze slices and blend with a little honey for a natural sorbet.

RIPENESS GUIDE

Plums may arrive firm to protect them during transit. Leave at room temperature for 1–2 days until they soften slightly under gentle thumb pressure and develop a sweet floral aroma near the stem. Do not refrigerate before ripening, as cold temperatures slow flavour development.

STORAGE

Once ripe, store plums in the refrigerator in the crisper drawer and consume within 3–4 days. For longer storage, slice, remove the stone, and freeze. Frozen plum slices keep well for up to 3 months and are ideal for smoothies, compotes, or cooking.

COMMON MISTAKE TO AVOID

Do not wash plums with hot water or soak them, as this can speed up spoilage. Instead, rinse briefly under cold running water just before eating. Store dry and unwashed until ready to use.
