Product description

THE CASE FOR NATURALLY FRAGRANCED LAUNDRY

The average synthetic laundry detergent fragrance blend contains 20–100 individual chemical compounds — musks, aldehydes, and synthetic aromatic molecules that are designed to be persistent (to stay on fabric) and to signal "clean" to the brain even when the scent is entirely manufactured.

The problem: these synthetic fragrance blends are the most common contact allergen in laundry products. They are also not required to be individually disclosed on EU or GCC labels — "parfum" or "fragrance" covers the entire blend.

This detergent takes a different path. The jasmine scent comes from natural fragrance compounds — including geraniol and linalool, both of which are naturally present in jasmine flowers and dozens of other plants. These are not synthetic molecules. They are the same compounds your nose encounters in a garden.

The formula remains 97% naturally derived. The scent is present but never overpowering — it leaves fabrics with a subtle, lasting freshness rather than the aggressive perfume-spray effect of conventional detergents.

WHAT IS ALEPPO SOAP AND WHY IS IT IN A LAUNDRY DETERGENT

Aleppo soap is one of the oldest soap-making traditions in the world — originating in Aleppo, Syria, and dating back over 3,000 years. It is made from two vegetable oils: olive oil and bay laurel berry oil, saponified together.

In a laundry context, the Aleppo soap base provides:

Saponified olive oil: a gentle, effective cleaning agent that lifts dirt and oils from fibres without stripping them. Olive oil-based soap has a lower pH than many synthetic surfactants, which helps preserve both fabric colour and fibre integrity over multiple washes.

Saponified bay laurel berry oil: bay laurel oil contains lauroyl compounds with additional cleaning efficacy. It is the characteristic ingredient of authentic Aleppo soap — its percentage determines the grade of the soap. In this formula, the saponified form contributes to the removal of harder-to-shift organic stains.

Together, these plant-oil-derived ingredients provide the core cleaning action, supplemented with a small percentage of additional anionic and non-ionic surfactants (less than 5% combined) for enhanced stain removal.

ABOUT GERANIOL AND LINALOOL

If you have looked at the composition label and noticed "geraniol" and "linalool" — these are not synthetic chemicals added to artificially create a scent. They are naturally occurring aromatic compounds found in jasmine, rose, geranium, basil, and hundreds of other plants.

They are listed separately on the label under EU cosmetic and detergent disclosure regulations (as potential contact allergens requiring labelling at certain concentrations) — which means their presence here is a sign of transparency, not a sign of concern. Their natural origin is consistent with the 97% naturally derived formula.

FOR WHOM THIS DETERGENT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

This detergent is ideal if you:

— Want naturally fragranced laundry without synthetic musk or petrochemical perfume

— Have a household without fragrance-sensitive members or infants who need fragrance-free washing

— Value a clean, floral scent that comes from natural compounds rather than synthesised perfume

— Are already using Najel's Aleppo soap products for personal care and want a consistent formulation philosophy in your home

If you have a newborn, eczema, or fragrance sensitivity, our Fragrance-Free variant (AED 89) is the more appropriate choice.

HOW TO USE

  • Machine wash: add the recommended dose to the detergent drawer. The liquid formula dissolves immediately and distributes evenly in both cold and warm water cycles.
  • Dosage: 36 washes per 2L bottle. Refer to the measuring cap for the correct dose based on load size and soil level.
  • Temperature: effective from 30°C. A 40°C wash uses 3x less energy than a 90°C cycle with equivalent results for everyday laundry. Hot washes are not required for effective cleaning with this formula.
  • Pre-treatment: for stubborn stains, apply Najel Aleppo Stain-Removing Soap directly to the stain, leave 10 minutes, then wash normally.
  • Fabric softener: white vinegar added to the softener drawer softens fabrics and neutralises any residual odour without adding synthetic fragrance back to the wash.
  • Hand washing: dilute in lukewarm water. The liquid formula works well for delicates.

The jasmine scent comes from naturally derived fragrance compounds — principally geraniol and linalool, both of which are naturally occurring aromatic molecules found in jasmine flowers, roses, geranium, and other plants. This variant contains natural jasmine fragrance compounds and is not recommended for people with fragrance sensitivity, contact dermatitis triggered by fragrance, or eczema that is managed with fragrance-free products. The fragrance compounds are natural in origin but can still trigger reactions in sensitised individuals — the issue for fragrance-sensitive skin is the aromatic molecules themselves, not whether they came from natural or synthetic sources. The difference reflects the cost of sourcing naturally derived jasmine fragrance compounds (geraniol, linalool from plant origin) rather than synthetic fragrance alternatives. Natural aromatic compounds are significantly more expensive to source and standardise than synthetic perfume molecules — which is why most mass-market laundry detergents with fragrance use synthetic substitutes, even those marketed as "fresh" or "floral." Yes. This detergent is effective from 30°C upwards. The liquid Aleppo soap base dissolves and distributes evenly in cold and warm water, which allows it to penetrate fibres and remove dirt and stains at lower temperatures than powder detergents. For everyday clothing and lightly soiled items, 30–40°C delivers excellent results. For heavily soiled items (sports clothing, kitchen textiles, cloth nappies), 40–60°C is recommended. There is no need to wash at 90°C for standard household laundry — beyond significant energy savings, lower temperatures also preserve fabric colour and fibre integrity over time.Yes — this detergent is effective from 30°C upwards.
