How This Golden Soup Was Born in My Kitchen

Feeding my family wholesome, protein-rich meals is always at the heart of my kitchen. But for me, it’s not just about nutrition—it has to be deeply satisfying, comforting, and delicious too.

One quiet afternoon, I found myself reaching for ingredients with no fixed plan—just a strong intention: to create a nourishing bowl that would feel light yet energising, healing yet hearty. I didn’t want to go the usual lentil or legume route this time. I wanted something different—something my husband would especially enjoy, and something that even the kids would love without questioning, “What’s in this?”

And that’s when the idea clicked.

Foxnut (makhana)—light, crunchy, calcium-rich—felt like the perfect base. Blending it with besan (split chickpea flour) for extra protein gave it body and creaminess. The beautiful golden hue came from organic turmeric, our age-old anti-inflammatory friend. I added boiled chickpeas for texture and fiber, a handful of chopped marrow for gut-loving lightness, and finished it all off with a gentle kick of chili and warmth from ginger and garlic.

This bowl came together intuitively, but with intention—and it turned out just right.

It’s versatile enough for lunch or dinner, and deeply satisfying for days when your body (and soul) crave warmth.

Here’s how you can make it for your loved ones too…

A warming, protein-rich soup for strong bones and happy muscles

Did you know that Foxnut (Makhana) is a powerful superfood?

Here’s why you should consider adding it to your daily diet:

✨ Rich in protein

✨ High in fiber

✨ Packed with calcium

✨ A natural source of micro-vitamins

I tried this hearty soup today—and let me tell you—it was YUMMMMMM! ?

Here’s a quick recipe for this comforting Golden Makhana (Foxnut) Turmeric Soup:

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup foxnuts (makhana)
  2. 1 tbsp organic besan (split chickpea flour)
  3. 1 cup boiled chickpeas
  4. 1 cup chopped organic marrow (zucchini or bottle gourd)
  5. 1 tbsp A2 ghee
  6. 1 tsp chili paste
  7. 1 cup chopped onion
  8. 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste (optional but adds warmth)
  9. 1 tsp organic sesame seeds
  10. 1 tsp organic turmeric
  11. 1 tbsp organic cold-pressed groundnut oil
  12. Fresh lemon juice
  13. Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Roast the Makhana: Heat A2 ghee in a pan and roast the foxnuts for about 5 minutes until they turn golden and crunchy. Set aside to cool.
  2. Sauté the Base: In a separate pan, heat the cold-pressed groundnut oil. Add chili paste and chopped onion, and sauté until translucent. Add turmeric and a splash (about ½ cup) of water.
  3. Cook the Veggies: Add the chopped marrow to the pan and let it cook until tender.
  4. Prepare the Makhana Mixture: Blend the roasted foxnuts into a fine powder. In a bowl, mix the powdered foxnut with besan (split chickpea flour) and enough water to make a smooth, runny batter.
  5. Combine & Simmer: Once the marrow is soft, add another cup of water and bring it to a boil. Slowly pour in the foxnut-besan (split chickpea flour) batter, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  6. Add the Chickpeas: Stir in the boiled chickpeas and let everything come to a full, comforting boil. Season with a little salt if you like.
  7. Finishing Touches: Squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the soup before serving.

Garnish with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro.

? Enjoy this bowl of Golden Makhana & Chickpea Nourish Soup Bowl warm, preferably at night—it’s soothing, protein-rich, and deeply healing
